The Definitive Singularity Blog

Happy not-so-new year!

January 30th, 2008 by john

At least it’s still January of the new year. I (John) am still on a self-awarded hiatus from Singularity. I and the others continue to share emails about reviews, sales, and the inevitable playoff matchup between the Nuggets and the Lakers, but they have been very nice to not pressure me about when I will start playing again. Thanks guys, I really do appreciate it. Last week I did come up with my first new piece of music in nearly a year, which was very exciting. I noodled around with it again yesterday and don’t think it’s horrible, which is a good sign. A few more experiences like that and I think I’ll be ready to start playing with other people again. In the meantime, thanks for reading and for listening to our music (which I assume you have if you’re actually reading this blog entry).

Triangularity

November 19th, 2007 by patch

Jamie, Scott and I (jp) had a fun time playing the “rifth annual Colorado ProgJam” (because the top of the ‘f” was obscured by a light) on Sunday with some classic King Crimson material (Red, One More Red Nightmare). I wanted to call us “The Null Set” corresponding to Singularity minus one, but Jamie pointed out we were closer to being Jethro Pugh minus three, so we went with the Triangularity moniker. Jamie also played with a subset of his other band, Pindral, and Scott played with his other band Zed (doing Lark’s Tongues Pt II, among others). The two of them also teamed up with other cars members to perform Heart of the Sunrise, which was a real highlight of the show.

Over the years we’ve been familiar faces at the ProgJam, playing twice as Singularity, including performing the enitrety of ‘Between Sunlight and Shadow’ at ProgJam II; my other band, Patch, has played twice, augmented by John and Scott on several tunes; Jamie’s other band, Pindral, closed the show at ProgJam II; and Scott’s other band, Zed has played (with line-up changes over the years) at every show. We’ve also participated in many other ad-hoc performances with various CARS members including the entirety of Jethro Tull’s ‘Thick as a Brick’ at ProgJam III.

It’s always a good time, and serves to foster comeraderie in the CARS group. See www.coloradoprog.com for info (maybe pics) and to see when next year’s show will be. (Jeff mentioned something about spring)

A time-out for John

November 13th, 2007 by john

I (John) am taking a breather from Singularity for the remainder of 2007. I hope to find myself and the rest of the band eager to move forward with new material and plans for live shows in 2008. In the meantime, the other three gentlemen are playing as “Triangularity” at this year’s Colorado Art Rock Society ProgFest on November 18. Check out coloradoprog.com for more info.
